The federal government, through the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), has inaugurated a 12-member Committee towards prioritising the health and well-being of its staff.
The committee’s mandate is to promote a safe and convenient work environment, as well as provide basic support services for civil servants through various activities.
The inauguration was conducted by the HoSF, Folasade Yemi-Esan. She underscores the government’s commitment to improving the value proposition of its staff.
Yemi-Esan emphasised that the initiative is in line with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 (FCSSIP-25) and the National Policy on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
The Committee, comprising members from the Occupational Health Safety and Environment (OHSE) Department and other critical departments, will make recommendations to the management on hazard control measures and other aspects for the improvement of safety, health, and welfare of staff in the workplace.
The acting director of OHSE, Engr Bello Kwali, acknowledged the OHCSF’s efforts to domesticate the National Policy on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and equip 150 OSH desk officers with the necessary competencies to coordinate the implementation of OSH activities in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
