The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has instructed all Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) to promptly enforce the additional multi-year tariff order from April 2024.
In response to the recent increase in electricity prices for top-tier consumers, the NERC has directed DisCos to ensure that clear information is given to all those impacted by the change.
The guidelines were announced by the commission through a statement released on Saturday by its Deputy General Manager of Market Competition and Rates, Abba Terab.
Terab specified that DisCos must only use the newly approved Band A feeders listed in their April 2024 supplementary orders for vending to prepaid customers and billing for postpaid customers on their networks.
“Each DisCo must promptly publish on their websites the list of authorized Band A feeders impacted by the rate review.
“By April 10, 2024, all Distribution Companies (DisCos) must create a portal on their website for customers to enter their meter or account numbers to view their current bands.
“By Thursday, April 11, 2024, all customers who were mistakenly billed at the new rate must receive refunds in the form of energy tokens. Evidence of compliance with the Commission should be filed by April 12, 2024.
“The Commission will ensure that the requirements mentioned are being followed and will remain available to assist all stakeholders as needed.”
