US Cautions Citizens over Shi’ite Protests in Abuja, Others

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has advised its citizens living in the country to be vigilant and take safety precautions ahead of a planned countrywide protest by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, also referred to as Shiites.

The US Embassy in Nigeria released a statement revealing this information, on Thursday.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command assured residents of sufficient security during the mentioned period and in the future.

The planned protest, scheduled for Friday, April 5, 2024, as announced by the US embassy, will primarily take place in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.

According to the statement, the exact times and locations were not mentioned, but potential sites for demonstrations in Abuja could encompass Bannex Plaza, Berger Junction, Unity Fountain, National Human Rights Commission Head Office, Eagle Square, Area 10 Shopping Plaza, National Mosque, Al-Noor Mosque, and Fouad Lababidi Mosque based on past events.

The Embassy also cautioned its citizens to avoid the area, stay informed with local news, steer clear of crowds, refrain from joining protests, remain vigilant of their surroundings, review their safety arrangements, ensure their phones are charged for emergencies, and always carry their identification.
