The correctional service in Kano has provided the Committee of Prerogative of Mercy with a list of inmates who have requested clemency.
Suleiman Inuwa, the Controller of Correctional Services in Kano state, has submitted a list of inmates who have requested clemency to the Kano State Committee of Prerogative of Mercy.
According to a press release from the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Musbahu Kofar Nassarawa, the chairperson has received a list of inmates on Death Row (IDR), those serving life sentences, and those serving lengthy prison terms.
Hajiya Azumi Namadi Bebeji, the chairperson of the Committee, gave a presentation during her visit to the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Janguzu, Kano.
She mentioned that the list also included prisoners facing significant health issues, elderly inmates, and other groups of inmates in the state.
Bebeji promised the prisoners that the government would investigate their circumstances, taking into account their behavior and work ethic while in prison as reported by the Correctional Service.
She also was pleased with inmates who memorized the Holy Quran and acknowledged the excellence of some inmates who achieved 9 credits in the National Examination Council (NECO) and are now applying for admission to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
Bebeji encouraged the Controller to bring their cases to the Governor of Kano state, while also urging all inmates to follow the rules of the Custodial Center and contribute positively to both themselves and society.
