AANI Lauds Safe Return of Kuriga Schoolchildren, Calls for Enhanced School Security

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has called for enhanced security measures in schools and communities to prevent more incidents of school children being kidnapped.

The association’s statement issued by its president, Ambassador Emmanuel Okafor on Sunday urged the government and security agencies to implement the Safe School Initiative and robust measures aimed at fortifying educational institutions against banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.

“We strongly believe that every child deserves the fundamental right to education in a safe and secure environment,” Ambassador Okafor emphasized.

AANI’s concerns come in light of the recent rescue of the Kuriga school children from the hands of bandits.

“We are profoundly grateful to all those who played pivotal roles in ensuring the safe return of these innocent children, marking a beacon of hope amidst the shadows of terror that have plagued our nation in recent times,” the statement read.

It commended the collective effort that led to the safe return of the abducted children.

Acknowledging the leadership of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani as well as the role of National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu mni, and men and women of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and security forces deployed in the region for their decisive actions in facilitating the rescue operation, Okafor stated

“The safe return of the Kuriga school children stands as a testament to the efficacy of proactive governance and the prioritization of the safety and security of our people.”

AANI also called upon the government to expedite efforts to secure the release of all individuals held in captivity by terrorists and bandits since 2014, emphasizing the importance of restoring peace and stability to the nation while pledging commitment to collaborating with governments, agencies, and stakeholders to create a safer, more secure Nigeria.

“We stand ready to collaborate with all stakeholders committed to forging a safer, more secure Nigeria.”
