Following the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recent data on food inflation rate increasing to 35.41per cent on a year-on-year basis, Small-Scale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria (SWOFON) has decried the situation and urged the Federal Government (FG) to invest in Agriculture and Security sector.
The National President of the association, Fatima Gummi made this appeal in a conference in Abuja tagged ‘The impact of the current economic hardship and food crises and inflation on small holder women farmers in Nigeria”
Gummi said the rising cost of medication and livestock are severely affecting smallholder women and this is hindering farm produce and causing food inflation
“The rising costs of feed and medication for livestock are severely affecting small holder women farmers, threatening our ability to sustain livestock farming operations, as we cannot afford to buy these essentials for our farming activities,” she said.
