Jigawa, a state in Northwestern Nigeria, has a population of 5.6 million, with 84.3 percent of its residents living in extreme poverty.
The Nigeria Multidimensional Poverty Index (NMPI) reveals that a significant portion of the population in Nigeria faces multiple deprivations, amounting to more than one quarter of all possible hardships.
The data also indicates that the majority, 65% or 86.1 million individuals, of those experiencing multidimensional poverty reside in the Northern region of the country.
Kano, home to 10 million people, has a poverty rate of 66.3%. Similarly, in Kebbi, with a population of 5.8 million, 82.2% of the people are considered multidimensionally poor according to the report.
Kaduna has a majority of its population (73.9%) living in multidimensional poverty, while Katsina has 72.7% of its population in the same situation.
Sokoto has a population of 4.2 million, with 90.5 percent of its residents considered multidimensionally poor, while Zamfara, with 4 million people, has 78.0 percent of its population living in multidimensional poverty.
