NEPL/SEPLAT JV Launches 2024 “Eye Can See” Initiative in Benin

The NEPL/Seplat Energy Joint Venture has commenced its 2024 edition of the “Eye Can See” initiative, a flagship Corporate Social Investment (CSI) program aimed at providing free optical treatment to communities in Benin, Edo State.

During the launch event, held at the Palace of the Oba of Benin on Wednesday, the Managing Director of Seplat West Limited, Ayodele Olatunde, represented by the Base Manager of Western Assets, Emmanuel Otokhine, Base Manager, expressed gratitude to partners, including the Edo State Health Management Board, for their support over the years.

Olatunde emphasized the commitment of Seplat and its Partners to sustain the program and encouraged community cooperation to maximize its benefits.

Corporate Communications Manager at NNPC Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL), Alhaji Dahiru Abubakar represented by the Community Liaison Officer, Faith Otitinor praised the collaboration with SEPLAT and highlighted the program’s focus on optical care. Abubakar reaffirmed the organizations’ dedication to human and capital development in Edo State.

Similarly, the Oyeoba of Benin, Chief Isaac Oghafua,  commended Seplat Energy JV for its significant impact on community health through the Eye Can See initiative. He expressed gratitude for the program, noting its direct benefits to community members, including those within the Palace.

A beneficiary of the ongoing program, Mrs. Florence Ayewoh, expressed her gratitude for the restored vision, stating, “I am really grateful to Seplat for making me see well again. May God bless all of you and those who sent you to come.”

Since its inception 12 years ago, the Eye Can See initiative has provided over 96,000 eye treatments, distributed more than 45,000 reading glasses, and conducted over 4,000 surgeries. The current phase aims to screen 6,000 individuals, perform 350 surgeries, and distribute 5,000 reading glasses across various communities.

Partnering with reputable medical practitioners and organizations such as the Family Health Outreach Association and the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, the Seplat Energy JV aligns the Eye Can See Programme with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, emphasizing good health and well-being for all.
