The Federal Government, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), has announced plans to establish over twenty-four skills and innovation centres across the country to empower Nigerians and enhance productivity.
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, made this disclosure during a visit to Innov8 Hub in Abuja, accompanied by critical stakeholders including the executive secretary of TETFund, Arch. Sonny Echono.
Mamman emphasised the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all Nigerian children by establishing skills centres nationwide.
He commended TETFund and Innov8 Hub for their efforts in providing practical training and mentorship for Nigerian youths and academics, aiming to produce graduates and boost research.
The Minister expressed his admiration for Innov8 Hub, stating, “What I have seen here is enough to provide the knowledge incubation to take Nigeria to the highest level. This place gives hope to the young ones who have the ideas and the disposition to acquire basic skills needed for a decent livelihood.”
Mamman also highlighted the need for collaboration between researchers and industries, emphasising the government’s commitment to bridging this gap.
He pledged to advocate for the involvement of big entrepreneurs and relevant ministry officials to witness the potential of Innov8 Hub and to ensure that students, including those from internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps, receive the necessary training and skills.
