Just In: FG Adopts Measures to Prevent Leak Memo, Instructs Ministries, Agencies to Operate Secretly

President Bola Tinubu’s government in Nigeria is making efforts to prevent the unauthorized release of official documents related to the operations and policies of various government entities to the public.

This was made known in a press statement issued by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, who addressed top officials of all ministries and government institutions in the country. The statement highlighted the increase in leaks of sensitive official documents within MDAs as shameful and intolerable.

It was further stated that in order to prevent this unwanted trend, all Permanent Secretaries should speed up the switch to a digital workflow system and implement an effective Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Solution.

This will minimise the handling of physical documents and help prevent the unauthorised sharing and circulation of sensitive information.

In addition, Permanent Secretaries should caution all staff members against sharing or spreading official information and documents. Any employee found participating in such behavior will face serious consequences in accordance with the Public Service Rules and other existing directives.

This circular supports the previous circular regarding the Unauthorized Circulation of Official Documents/Information on Social Media” Ref. No. HCSF/3065/Vol. 1/94, dated 2nd August 2021, and other rules that forbid the unauthorized sharing or leakage of official documents.
