The Abia State Government has issued a warning to citizens to refrain from using the Aro Ajatakiri stream in the Ajata na Igu community of the Ikwuano Local Government Area.

According to the Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna, the river has been contaminated and is now unsafe for human consumption.

In a statement issued by the commissioner, he emphasized the importance of the government taking necessary action to protect the public from the health threats associated with consuming water from the stream.

Ogbonna urged the public to strictly adhere to the health advice and avoid using the contaminated water until a thorough investigation and feasibility study have been conducted in the stream and surrounding area.

It is unclear what specifically caused the contamination, but the government has taken immediate action to address the issue and protect the welfare of the citizens.

Water contamination can have severe health consequences, including the spread of waterborne diseases and other related illnesses.
