Nigeria Launches Grant Cycle 7 to Combat Health Issues

The Coordinating Minister of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Ali Pate, announced the official launch of the Grant Cycle 7 (GC7) for the period 2024-2026.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Information, Patricia Deworitshe, in Abuja.

In his speech at the event, Dr Ali Pate emphasised the aim of the allocated budget of USD 933 million, which is to reduce the impact of HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria in Nigeria.

Pate also emphasised President Tinubu’s directive to enhance health outcomes for Nigerians through collaborative efforts between the Federal Government, state governments, and development partners.

During the launch, Dr Ali Pate handed over the Global Fund grant to recipients, including the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, National AIDS and STDs Control Programme, National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme, Institute for Human Virology Nigeria, National Malaria Elimination Programme, Catholic Relief Services, and other organizations, totaling USD 933 million.

He said: “To achieve the 95-95-95 targets by 2025 for HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, the Federal Government is dedicated to improving health through governance, transparency, primary healthcare, maternal and child health, infrastructure, and health security.”

He urged the Global Fund and principal recipients to support local manufacturers and foster trust among key players
