The Karmo market in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was engulfed by a devastating fire in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving traders helpless as their goods turned to ashes.

Known for its affordable prices of used clothing, the market experienced a tragic incident that many believe could have been minimised if the fire service had arrived on time.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the market caught fire in the wee hours of the morning, causing panic among the traders.

One sales representative at the market expressed her frustration, stating, “The damage would have been minimal if the fire services had arrived earlier. Sadly, all our goods are destroyed before any help could arrive.”

African Health Report (AHR) correspondent, who was present at the scene, spoke to various individuals affected by the fire.

They recounted the horror of watching their valuables burn to the ground while awaiting assistance. The absence of any government authority visiting the scene has further frustrated the victims of this tragic event.

The relevant authorities must conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and the delay in the fire service’s response.
