Despite concerns over the increasing exodus of skilled workers from Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has assured that his government will train more personnel to fill the void left by those leaving the country.
President Tinubu said this on Monday during the inauguration of Governor Hope Uzodinma in Owerri, Imo state.
The migration of skilled workers, particularly healthcare workers, has been a pressing issue in Nigeria. The World Health Organization (WHO) included the country in its list of nations suffering from a shortage of health workers in May 2023.
Tinubu’s speech aimed to alleviate these worries, assuring the public that healthcare and industrialization would be prioritised.
He stated, “Don’t worry about what you are hearing about the Japa syndrome, we will train more people and we will supply them self,” he said. “You see the priority in industrialisation. Healthcare will receive more allocation and more attention.”
Tinubu further expressed his commitment to improving security and peace in southeastern states, acknowledging the progress made in Imo state specifically.
He assured the audience, “The peace that you are enjoying here relatively will be better and we will work hard with you to achieve that peace. Today Imo is safe and happy and ready for business
