President Bola Tinubu has formed a Special Presidential Panel, chaired by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance Wale Edun, to investigate the National Social Investment Programmes Agency (NSIPA).
The panel was established following the president’s decision to suspend the four programmes under the NSIPA for six weeks, according to a release issued on Saturday by presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.
The panel consists of ministers from various strategic sectors to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach. These include the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, and the Minister of State for Youth.
The primary objective of the Special Panel is to conduct a comprehensive review and audit of the existing financial frameworks and policy guidelines of the social investment programmes.
This will involve a complete re-engineering of the financial architecture of the programmes and detailed modifications to the procedures governing their implementation going forward.
President Tinubu expects the panel to restore public confidence in these crucial programmes. The aim is to establish an era of open and accountable governance frameworks that will be impervious to abuse and incompetence. The ultimate goal is to benefit disadvantaged households throughout the nation.
