15,000 Households Affected by Floods to Benefit from Government Intervention

The federal government has announced that over 15,000 households impacted by the devastating floods of 2022 and 2023 will receive assistance.

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustapha Habib, made this revelation during a ceremony held in Borno state to mark the launch of the intervention program.

Habib emphasised that this intervention aims to promote sustainable socio-economic resilience among the most vulnerable individuals affected by the floods.

To ensure the success of the program, he said: ” NEMA staff, in collaboration with personnel from State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs), State Agricultural Development Project, and other relevant stakeholders, conducted the verification of the target beneficiaries.

“Each affected household will receive essential support in the form of both food and non-food items, as well as agricultural inputs to aid in their recovery. Additionally, beneficiaries will receive livelihood support in the form of grinding and sewing machines, empowering them to secure a sustainable source of income.”

During the event, Sirajo Abdullahi, the North East Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, urged the beneficiaries not to sell the items they receive but instead utilize them for their benefit.
