Breaking News: Tinubu Suspends Betta Edu, Directs EFCC to Conduct Probe

President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, from office with immediate effect.

This decision comes amid controversy surrounding Edu’s alleged involvement in the approval of N585,198,500.00 to be disbursed into a personal account.

The suspension was announced by Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement on Monday afternoon.

The President also directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

“Furthermore, the President has tasked a panel that is headed by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance to, among other functions, conduct a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programmes to conclusively reform the relevant institutions and programmes in a determined bid to eliminate all institutional frailties for the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households and win back lost public confidence in the initiative.”

Edu, the youngest in the President’s cabinet before her suspension, denied the allegations and stated that there were plans to tarnish her image, emphasizing that she won’t embezzle government funds. Calls for her suspension had been intense, and the President’s decision to suspend Edu and initiate a probe comes after acknowledging the outrage and pressure from rights activists and many Nigerians.

  1. You could never find the words to describe how much I loved you. No matter how beautiful the picture is or how polished your writing is, you read it quickly. To be honest, I think you should give it another chance soon. I will probably try to go on this hike again and again if you make sure it is safe.
