Miss Enobong, a resident of Abuja, recently shared her harrowing experience of being mobbed, beaten, and robbed while travelling home from work.
The victim, who is also a serving Corp member in the FCT, spoke to African Health Report (AHR) on Friday, recounting the terrifying incident that occurred in the late hours of Tuesday.
According to Miss Enobong, she and a colleague unknowingly boarded a cab operated by notorious kidnappers, who proceeded to rob them of their phones, ATM cards, and money. She described the traumatic experience, stating that the cab was used by the kidnappers to carry out their criminal activities.
“I disembarked from work and was on my way home. I work as an optician and often take extra hours to meet the high cost of commodities because I fund myself,” Miss Enobong said. “This fateful day, I boarded a cab with a colleague from work to Lugbe car wash, unknowingly it was this popular kidnapper’s car.”
She went on to describe the harrowing ordeal, explaining how the kidnappers deprived her of air, causing distress as an asthmatic patient. “They wound up the windows, and there was no air, and I nearly suffocated. I pleaded with them to give me my inhaler, which they did after they parked for a few minutes so I could get some air. I was shivering and crying,” she recounted.
The perpetrators then proceeded to rob them of their belongings and demanded that Miss Enobong transfer money to her friend’s account.
Miss Enobong revealed that the kidnappers had initially planned to take them to Kaduna and sell them off, but they were eventually stopped at a lonely road around Jabi, where they had to find alternative means to get home at about 11 pm.
The traumatizing experience has left Miss Enobong shaken, and she has not left her house since the incident.
When our correspondent attempted to contact the police, complaint contact available on the Nigeria police X handle to make a case for the victim, the number was unresponsive, and messages sent were not replied to.
The harrowing experience of Miss Enobong highlights the vulnerability of individuals to criminal activities, and the lack of prompt response from law enforcement agencies raises concerns about the safety and security of citizens. It is imperative for authorities to address these issues and ensure the protection of individuals against such criminal acts.
