The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has officially communicated to embassies, high commissions, concerned parties, and airlines that individuals who can prove their Nigerian citizenship should not be denied entry into the country.

The NIS also clarified that an expired passport is a valid proof of citizenship.

In a brief statement posted on its official handle on Sunday, the Service reiterated that Nigerians with a valid means of identification cannot be turned away from entering the country.

It stated: “We sent out a document (again) in this regard to embassies, high commissions, concerned parties and airlines in this regard.

“You can’t refuse a Nigerian (with valid means of identity – expired or not) entry into his/her country.”
