As the yuletide season begins, the Department of State Services (DSS) has urged Nigerians to be security-conscious while enjoying the festivities.
In a statement signed by the Director, Public Relations and Strategic Communications of DSS, Peter Afunanya, and released on Friday, the DSS warned operators and patrons of recreational centres, worship centres, supermarkets, and other public places to be alert and take necessary measures to ensure that their facilities are protected from criminals and terrorists.
The Secret Service also called on citizens to report any suspicious movements, persons, parcels or objects to relevant security agencies.
Afunanya advised Nigerians to shun acts of violence, fake news and any form of divisive tendencies, in the interest of public order and national security.
The DSS further urged members of the public to promote unity and peaceful coexistence during the festive season.
Meanwhile, the Secret Service disclosed that it would collaborate with other security and law enforcement agencies to provide adequate security before, during, and after the festive periods.
To pass information or make enquiries, the agency said it may be contacted through its offices at the State Commands, Local Government Formations, or through the following phone numbers: 09153391309, 09153391310, and 09088373514. Citizens can also send an email to dsspr@dss.gov.ng or via its Twitter handle, @OfficialDSSNG.
