Stakeholders Call for Elimination of Stigma Surrounding Menstrual Hygiene

Plan International, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has stressed the need to eliminate the stigma surrounding menstruation.

Representative of the NGO, Helen Idiong, said this is vital for the well-being of women.

She made this known in Abuja while speaking as one of the stakeholders at a National Dialogue on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHHM) in Nigeria with the theme ‘Accelerating Efforts for Eradicating Menstrual Poverty’ on Thursday.

Idiong explained that addressing “issues around taboo and not speaking about menstruation is one of those things that are key toward the fight to allow girls to have their rights and dignity.”

Other partners, including WaterAid, UNESCO, UNFPA and Population Services Nigeria, made commitments to tackle the challenges women and girls face during the monthly period.

The dialogue was organised by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, in collaboration with stakeholders to enhance menstrual hygiene among women and girls.

In his remarks, the director overseeing the Permanent Secretary’s office, Francis Adebisi, said the parley would enable the ministry to reflect on the challenges and experiences women and girls go through during the monthly circle.

He also raised awareness on the need to put more effort into tackling MHHM, saying, “This gathering is therefore aimed at raising awareness on what can be done and to redouble our efforts as individuals, policymakers, MDAs and other stakeholders toward addressing menstrual hygiene.

”Let’s expand on it and focus too on others issues around menstruation discussed like access to sanitary pad for adolescents.”

Co-chair of the event, Elizabeth Jieyol, said that there is a road map that will guide the course of action.

“Each perspective shared, every idea presented and every commitment made will contribute to the roadmap that will guide our collective efforts,” she assured.

  1. Winston here from Iowa. I’m always watching to see what newer sites are going up and I just wanted to see if you would like an extra hand with getting some targeted traffic, create videos/images/adcopy, the list goes on. I’ll even shoulder 90% of the costs, dedicating my time and tools that I’ve created myself and bought over the years. I’ve been doing this for over 22 years, helped thousands of people and have loved every minute of it.

There’s virtually no cost on my end to do any of this for you except for my time starting at 99 a month. I don’t mean to impose; I was just curious if I could lend a hand.

Brief history, I’ve been working from home for a couple decades now and I love helping others. I’m married, have three girls and if I can provide for them by helping you and giving back by using the tools and knowledge I’ve built and learned over the years, I can’t think of a better win-win.

It amazes me that no one else is helping others quite like I do and I’d love to show you how I can help out. So, if you need any extra help in any way, please let me know either way as I value your time and don’t want to pester you.

PS – If I didn’t mention something you might need help with just ask, I only mentioned a handful of things to keep this brief 🙂

    Happy Holidays,

    Winston
