The Programme Officer of Gombe State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Hassan Mohammed, has said that cases of rape of children and homosexuality among adolescents and teenagers are increasing the prevalence of HIV infections in the state.
He added that the state governor had in recent times suspended some big names from offices as a result of sexual harassment of small children in the society.
Mohammed made this known on Saturday while speaking to journalists during the 2023, 16 days of activism organised by the Centre for Integrated Health Programmes.
He said, “The amount of kids infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus has been on the rise, and gender based violence plays an important role in its spread.
“In State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA), we are certain that these are some of the drivers towards HIV in Gombe State. Little children and even mentally deranged people are being raped. That is how they transfer these kinds of infections to the society. So it has been an issue within our society nowadays.”
