Dangote Oil Refinery has confirmed the arrival of the first one million barrels of crude shipment, marking its commencement of fuel production.
The Agbami Crude grade was purchased from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO), as stated in an official statement.
The cargo, transported by STASCO, was discharged into the refinery’s crude oil tanks via Dangote Refinery’s Single Point Mooring (SPM). This initial one million barrels represents the first phase of a total of six million barrels of crude oil to be supplied to Dangote Petroleum Refinery by various suppliers. These barrels will sustain the initial processing capacity of 350,000 barrels per day.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is set to supply the next four cargoes within the next two to three weeks, while ExxonMobil will provide the final shipment of the six cargoes. This supply chain will not only facilitate the refinery’s initial operations but also kick-start the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and LPG, eventually progressing to the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
This milestone achievement by Dangote Oil Refinery is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the fuel supply challenges faced not only by Nigeria but also by other West African countries.
The refinery, designed to process 100% Nigerian crude while maintaining the flexibility to handle other crude grades, has a daily processing capacity of 650,000 barrels. It can accommodate most African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crude from various other countries.
According to the statement, Dangote Petroleum Refinery is capable of meeting 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jets. Additionally, the refinery will have a surplus of each of these products available for export.
To facilitate the smooth flow of operations, Dangote Oil Refinery has strategically positioned two SPMs, located 25 kilometers from the shore, for the intake of crude oil. Furthermore, three separate SPMs have been established for the discharge of petroleum products.
With the commencement of fuel production, Dangote Oil Refinery is poised to revolutionize the energy landscape, ensuring a reliable and sufficient supply of refined products in Nigeria and beyond.
