The Nigerian Medical and Dental Council (MDCN) has said over 433 out of 836 trained Nigerian medical graduates did not score above the pass mark in its qualifying examination.
Medical graduates must pass the MDCN assessment in order to qualify to practice in Nigeria.
According to PUNCH, out of the list of shortlisted candidates received in Abuja, a total of 836 people with medical degrees from international colleges were shortlisted for the examination.
The test was computer based, with the doctors taking the exam at four different locations in Kano Cooperative CBT Centre, JAMB Professional Test Centre, Treztech and BMG Institute of Information Technology, between November 22 and 23, 2023..
It stated that in addition to the computer-based test, a picture-based test, and an objective structural clinical assessment were also part of the examination.
However, most of the medical and dental graduates performed poorly in the CBT.
Thousands of Nigerians prefer foreign colleges to study for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course, notably Egypt, Russia, Hungary, India, Belarus, Guyana,
Ukraine, Niger Republic, Sudan and Benin Republic.
