In a bid to combat violence against women and girls across the nation, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Ireti Kingibe, has rallied for a national collaboration.
Speaking at the launch of The OrangeNIGERIA, an initiative aimed at addressing the root causes of gender-based violence (GBV), Senator Kingibe emphasised the need for inclusivity, education and community engagement.
The launch of The OrangeNIGERIA witnessed various stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organisations and activists, all uniting under one common goal – to eradicate violence against women and girls. As the orange symbolises a brighter, more hopeful future, the initiative seeks to raise awareness and take proactive steps towards ending GBV in Nigeria.
Senator Kingibe highlighted the urgency of the situation, stressing that violence against women and girls is deeply rooted in societal norms and prejudices. She noted that the initiative seeks to empower individuals to stand against violence by fostering open conversations.
She said: “This project is not just a Senate initiative; it is a national call to action.
“We must stand together to create a society where everyone feels safe, heard and valued.”
