Health Ministry Establishes Committee to Enforce Standards in Hospitals

The Federal Ministry of Health has announced the inauguration of the National Tertiary Health Institutions Standard Committee (NTHISC).
The committee, unveiled by the State Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, is to ensure compliance and maintain high standards across all tertiary hospitals nationwide.
“As the Federal Ministry of Health focuses on improving governance in the health sector, a National Tertiary Health Institutions Standards Committee (NTHISC) has been inaugurated by HMS, Dr. Tunji Alausa,” the ministry announced on its official X account on Wednesday, noting that its primary task is to oversee and enforce stringent standards at all tertiary hospitals.
The committee’s mandate, however, extends beyond ensuring compliance; it is empowered to advice to the Minister of Health on matters pertaining to the establishment of tertiary hospitals. Additionally, NTHISC will offer guidance to the federal government on the financial requirements of these healthcare institutions, and it will be instrumental in setting benchmarks and criteria for fund allocation.
The ministry noted that this development will improve governance in the health sector as the NTHISC as part of its responsibility will monitor and evaluate all activities of tertiary hospitals, create an operational guidelines to guild all areas of tertiary hospitals management.
