Funding flows in for Ironton Senior Center | News

IRONTON Seniors will get a boost in the near future as a result of extra funding for the Ironton Senior Center at 202 Park Ave.

The nonprofit Third and Center was awarded a $14,000 grant from Marathon Petroleum for enriching the senior center programming. The grant is a result of an application written by Cleary.

Third and Center also received pre-allocated funds dedicated to senior programming from the Lawrence County Commissioner’s office.

In addition, Third and Center recently had a fundraising sale of Ironton Tanks hoodies to aid the senior center.

In August, Cleary visited the center and learned the senior center had been operating independently, lacking scheduled programming, meal service and a dedicated director since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Shortly thereafter, Gleichauf was appointed as program director at the center with the goal of reviving its services to seniors.

As a result, meal service will be provided by Fat Boy Q for November and December.

The center, on the second floor of the Park Avenue Apartments, is open from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The center is open to all seniors in Ironton; no signup is required.
