As the world prepares to mark the 17th World Rabies Day, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has urged the public to protect themselves from the spread of rabies.

Rabies is spread through bites from animals, including dogs, bats, coyotes, foxes, skunks and raccoons.

According to statement posted on its official twitter handle on Tuesday, the NCDC urged everyone to keep their surroundings clean, vaccinate their pets and stay clear of infected animals.

It disclosed that symptoms of rabies include fever, headaches, excess salivation, muscle spasms, paralysis and mental confusion, while urging any person who suspects infection to quickly go for medical diagnosis.

The 17th World Rabies Day will be marked on September 28, with the theme, ‘All for 1, One Health for all’. It highlights that One Health is not for a selected few but for everyone.
