NSCDC arrests 2 oil bunkers in Abuja

At least two persons were arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, on Thursday, for suspected oil bunkering.

The FCT Commandant of the Corps, Olusola Odumosu, said the suspects were picked up in the Pai area of Kwali Area Council, in possession of 16 jerrycans of petroleum products suspected to be crude oil.

Odumosu, while parading the suspects, said investigations are ongoing to ascertain the source of the products and possibly, identify the man behind the mask.

The FCT Command also paraded five suspected vandals and cable thieves who were arrested for unlawful possession of communication cables.

The suspects are Sulieman Abdulamin (30) from Kagaro Local Government Area of Kaduna State; Musa Yakubu (37) from Gwagwalada Area Council of FCT; Celestine Nelson (29) from Kagaro LGA of Adamawa State; Oluwatosin Henry (27) from Ondo West LGA of Ondo State; and Okolawen Femi (25) from Akoko South LGA of Ondo State.

Two other persons who were suspected of having vandalised the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company armoured cables at the premises of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, were also arrested.

Another suspect who dislodged a flat-screen television at Maitama District Hospital was also arrested by officers of the Command.

Speaking during the parade, Odumosu stated, “In the course of carrying out this noble assignment, the Command arrest suspects on daily basis based on its usual proactive approach to work. Suspected vandals and other criminals are apprehended on daily basis with their exhibits in their hands.

“At the end of the investigations, the suspects will be prosecuted, as the command is not willing to compromise its effort to totally and absolutely eliminate all forms of vandalism and criminality within the metropolis.”

Speaking on the 2023 International Day of Peace with the theme ‘Action for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals’, Odumosu said “Today is a call to action that recognises our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace.

“Fostering peace contributes to the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will create a culture of peace for all.”
