Over the weekend, the news broke that three high-ranking Executive Vice-Presidents of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) were compulsorily retired by the board of directors.

It was said that the move was part of a recent shake-up at the company and efforts to further reposition the company for global competitiveness. African Health Report gathered that the three ousted EVPs, who were due for retirement in 2024, had been forced to retire.

The three outgone EVPs are Abdulkabir Ahmed for Gas, Power and New Energies; Engr. Adokiye Tombomieye for Upstream and Adeyemi Adetunji for Downstream. They have been replaced by Olalekan Ogunleye who replaces Ahmed as EVP Gas, Power and New Energies. He had served the company in various capacities before their retirement.

Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, the erstwhile Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer, is now in charge of Upstream, while Adedapo Segun is the Executive Vice-President, Downstream for replacing Tombomieye and Adetunji, respectively.

Their removal was to pave way for the incoming executives who have been credited by company insiders as having the necessary skills, experience and vision to take NNPCL to the next level.
