Speaker Abass Sets up Unit to Coordinate All Partnership Programmes

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has announced the establishment of a unit that will coordinate all partnership programmes entered into by the House.

This is to ensure that they are properly documented and effectively utilised to achieve the desired outcomes, the Speaker said in an interactive meeting which held on Monday at the National Assembly.

Tajudeen underscored the importance of capacity development for both Members and staff of the House, saying its primary aim of was to ensure that all partnership programmes conducted by the House are properly documented and effectively utilised to achieve the desired outcomes.

Stating that one of his key policy priorities upon assuming office as the Speaker of the House was to enhance the capacity of members and staff, he emphasised ‘improved capacity to cope with office demands’ which has become even more pressing due to the high turnover rate in the 10th House of Representatives which welcomed over two hundred new members along with numerous legislative aides.

Present at the meeting were various development partners and technical support organisations that have been contributing to capacity-building initiatives over the past decade including the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), the Department for International Development (DFID), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), among others.
