The Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Development Awareness, CESDA, has called for the formation of special environmental marshals to tackle open defecation and indiscriminate refuse dumping in the FCT.

Executive Director, CESDA, Mr. Olusola Babalola, made the call last Thursday in Abuja at ‘a Stakeholder’s Dialogue on Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, GESI, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, SGBV, with the original inhabitants in FCT’.

He said that the indiscriminate dumping of refuse and open defecation in the territory was such that the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari, declared a five-year emergency on sanitation and hygiene to be achieved in 2025.

A representative of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB, Mrs Hauwa Audu, assured of the organisation’s commitment to making the FCT neat and safe for the residents.

Dr. Francis Azafyenu of the Bwari Primary Health Centre, Abuja; and Ms Progress Ajanaku of the HipCity told participants to help in their ways in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of FCT residents and people in their communities.
