Manchester United have announced that Antony will not return to the club until he clears his name from the assault allegations against him.
In a statement on Sunday, Man United said it has told the Brazilian winger to stay away from the club “until further notice”.
“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony. Players who have not participated in international matches are due back in training on Monday,” the statement reads.
“However, it has been agreed with Antony that he will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.
“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
The winger was dropped by Brazil earlier this week following the assault allegations made by former girlfriend Gabriela Cavalin.
Cavallin shared details of the alleged attack to Brazilian news outlet UOL. She claimed the player threatened to kill her and attacked her with a glass.
The report alleged that Antony attacked Cavallin “with a headbutt” in a Manchester hotel room on January 15.
She was said to have gotten an injured head which needed treatment from a doctor.
“He said that if I didn’t stay with him, I wouldn’t stay with anyone. That I was pregnant with his child. Either I would stay with him or I, him and our son would die,” she said.
“I told him I was pregnant, that he was scaring me, making my heart race. I was trembling with fear.”
Although Antony described the report as “false”, police in Manchester and Sao Paolo are investigating the allegation.
Antony is the second Man United player after Mason Greenwood to be accused of assault in recent years.
