Juliet Jacob Ochenje

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, has disclosed that the Federal Government’s revised conditional cash transfer programme will cover 15 million households through the updated social safety net project tagged Conditional Cash Transfer.

This is just as she announced the creation of the Renewed Hope Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund (HPATF) which will be funded through Federal Government budgetary allocation, and donations from development partners, international community, taxes, private sector contributions, etc.

Speaking during a meeting with the World Bank Country Director, Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, at the organisation’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, Dr. Edu also informed them that President Bola Tinubu is determined to refocus the Ministry on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

She appreciated the flexibility of World Bank to accommodate the new agenda of the Ministry to include poverty elimination, as well as its continuous support to Nigeria especially in the areas of Education, health, agriculture, private sector development, social services, among others.

However, she appealed for more support for the ministry in verifying and expanding the National Social Register (NSR).

In response, the World Bank Country Director pledged to provide all needed support to deliver on the new focus of the Ministry.
