The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr.Betta Edu, has disclosed that the verification of the Federal Government’s social register to ensure that the poorest of the poor is captured has begun.

Edu further said that the Federal Government will work closely with State Governors, Local Governments and community leaders to verify and update social registers across the country.

She said this on Friday when she appeared on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily.

There has been controversies surrounding the authenticity of the beneficiaries of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s social welfare interventions.

“We are going to first carry out full verification of the social register to ensure that truly, it is the poorest of the poor are those who deserve to be on that list,” the Minister said.

Dr. Edu added: “From there, we will now create a different beneficiaries category to those who will be benefitting from the zero hunger intervention, those who will be benefitting from the educational intervention, and those who will be benefitting also from the skilled job and job opportunities.

“The humanitarian sectors will be creating jobs for agencies by preparing a protocol that can easily give guidelines to those who will be hiring for 3 months, for 6 months, and also for 1 year, maximum 2 years on contract basis…. so all these are ways we’ll really get the jobs out.”
