11 Federal Medical Centers Get a Fresh Start with Newly Appointed CMDs

The federal government (FG) has approved the appointment of new chief medical directors (CMDs) for 11 federal medical centres across the country.
This announcement was made in a statement signed by a director at the federal ministry of health, Patricia Deworitshe.

DeworitShe also revealed the four-year terms for the newly appointed CMDs, backdating their appointment to August 1, 2023.

The new CMDs include Nyandanti Yakub Wilberforce, Federal Medical Centre, Hong, Adamawa state; Issa Baba Awoye, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Buddo-Egba, Kwara and Umar Faruk Abdumajid, Federal Medical Centre, Daura, Katsina state.

Also included are Muhammad Shittu Adamu, Federal Medical Centre, Wase, Plateau; Shuaibu Jauro Yahya, Federal Medical Centre Mubi, Adamawa state; Mercy Anugwu, Federal Medical Centre Onitsha, Anambra state; Auwalu Sani Salihu, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Dawanau Kano state; and Rufai Ahmed, Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria.

Others are Mangwa J. Kortar, Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, Benue state; Robinson Chukwudi Onoh, Alex Ekwueme, Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakiliki, Ebonyi state; and Nurudeen Isa, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Kano state.

The eleven new appointments were congratulated by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Kachollom Daju, who also tasked them with collaborating as a team with stakeholders and health professionals.

The incoming chief medical directors were further admonished by the ministry’s permanent secretary to take all necessary steps to create a supportive work environment and infrastructure aimed at reaching a high level of health care.

“It may be challenging but there is no challenge that is insurmountable, and your appointment is an indication of the confidence that the federal government has in you,” she said.
