Akwa Ibom State has the highest percentage of children without a father or mother at 15.3 per cent, closely followed by Ebonyi State with 15.1 per cent, and Rivers State with 14 per cent.

This is according to 2021 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) report released on Saturday by Statisense.

The research was conducted by a team of researchers who explored various social indicators of each state in Nigeria, including poverty, education, and health. The data was collected from a range of sources, including government statistics and household surveys.

It stated that a significant percentage of children between the ages of 0 to 17 years in various states in Nigeria do not have one or both parents, while noting that Delta State had the lowest percentage at 10.2 per cent.

Other states with notable percentages include Enugu at 12.7 per cent, Bayelsa at 12.1 per cent, Benue at 11.6 per cent, Abia at 10.8 per cent, Imo at 10.7 per cent, and Anambra at 10.5 per cent.

This data highlights the growing concern about child welfare in Nigeria and the need for concerted efforts to ensure all children have access to basic parental care and support.
