A Professional Body Piercer in Abuja, known as “The Melanated Goth”, has advised the public to take aftercare routines seriously in order to avoid having complications after a body piercing procedure.

Miss. Idia, as she identified herself, a body piercer for over 2 years, said this when she spoke with African Health Report (AHR).

She said the most common complication is the growth of keliods and bumps, which could have been prevented with strict adherence to directives issues by professional body piercers on after care.

“After we pierce, we offer after care advices or tips, but many people do not tend to follow these tips or advice, leading to complications.

“Lack of following proper care routines after getting piercings can result to the area getting infected and resulting to keliods and bumbs which could sometimes require surgery to be removed,” she stated.

She, however, assured the public that if they patronise professionals while seeking body piercing services and follow their instructions on how to after care, they will be unlikely to have an issues in the aftermath.
