2 Persons Killed in NDLEA Lagos Raid

By Hadiza Ibrahim

Two persons have been allegedly killed by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Idi-Oro Area of Mushin in Lagos State.

They were said to have died after stray bullets from a commando style operation of the operatives hit them on Wednesday night. There were reportedly other casualties with injuries.

Reacting to the incident, the drug law enforcement agency said its officials were defending themselves when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The raid of the drug den in the community, which lasted hours, left the officers shooting sporadically in a bid to achieve their objective of nipping their target.

The NDLEA officers later left the community with bags of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, also known as Indian hemp.

A source within the agency confirmed to our correspondent that over 250 wraps of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, three suspects and a vehicle suspected to be of a drug kingpin were taken away from the scene.

However, NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi BBabafemi has said the agency’s operatives came under attack on Wednesday night when it raided Mushin to arrest a baron behind shipments of drugs from Ghana.

He explained: “Our men on Wednesday night went to Mushin to arrest the baron behind shipments of drugs that have been coming from Ghana. After the arrest of some of the wanted suspects and recovery of drugs and their vehicles, our men came under attack from their boys, who had locked all the exit gates in the community, and our officers had to defend themselves to come out of the area alive.”
