The Nigeria National Agency for food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians to stay away from “unwholesome Mayonnaise brand, “Whippy Mayonnaise”.
It said this alert was following a consumer’s complaint received and investigated by the post marketing surveillance unit of the Agency in llorin, Kwara State.
According to NAFDAC, samples of the products were then taken randomly from different batches and sent for investigation in its laboratory.
The Agency stated: “That laboratory analysis conducted on the products showed that unsatisfactory outcomes was discovered.
“Though the products were still within shelf life, and they have become rancid and exhibits a colour different from the original colour of mayonnaise. All zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to carry out surveillance and mop up the implicated batches of the unwholesome product.
“NAFDAC implores distributors, retailers and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid consumption, sale or distribution of the implicated batches of the unwholesome Whippy Real Mayonnaise. The products’ authenticity and physical condition should be carefully checked.”
