Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has requested the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to publish details of the proposed transfer of N8,000 monthly to 12 million poor households for six months.
The rights group also asked for the list of intended beneficiaries, how they will be selected, and the methods of payment.
In a statement released on Thursday, the rights group stated that Tinubu must publish the details of the proposed transfer to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of the aid.
According to SERAP, the details of the transfer should be made public to ensure that the money gets to the intended beneficiaries and is not diverted by corrupt officials.
SERAP also noted that the government needs to establish a clear process for the selection of beneficiaries and the disbursement of the funds, adding that Tinubu’s administration must ensure that the list of beneficiaries is made public and that the distribution of the funds is done transparently.
The request by the SERAP comes after Tinubu unveiled plans to transfer N8,000 to 12 million households for six months to help them cope with the economic impact of the fuel subsidy removal.
