Being In A Committed Relationship Causes Weight Gain, Studies Show

By Jumoke Olasunkanmi

A recent study conducted by Central Queensland University has shown that people in committed relationships are more likely to gain weight compared to their single counterparts, despite eating healthy.

According to the lead author, Stephanie Schoeppe, this could be because they no longer feel the need to attract potential suitors.

“When couples don’t need to look attractive and slim to attract a partner, they may feel more comfortable in eating more, or eating more foods high in fat and sugar,” she said.

While the study showed that couples tend to live a healthier lifestyle by eating fruits and vegetables and avoiding junk food, experts believe that the weight gain could be a result of trying different types of food together.
