In a bid to enhance transparency and improve the credibility of its results, the National Examination Council (NECO) has unveiled an e-platform for the verification and confirmation of results.
The launch of the e-platform is coming amidst increasing concerns over the validity, credibility and forgery of examination results in Nigeria, especially with the viral case of Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed this at the flagging off ceremony on Thursday in Abuja. He said the e-platform was aimed at curbing the incidence of certificate forgery and impersonation, and will enable employers, educational institutions, and other relevant bodies to verify and confirm the validity of results presented by candidates as well as hiring unqualified persons.
The e-platform, which is accessible through the NECO website, allows users to input the details of the candidate, including their examination number and year of examination. The system will then generate a unique code that can be used to verify the candidate’s result.
He said: “Due to the growing need for verification and confirmation of results by the institutions both home and abroad, the council decided that now was the best time to introduce the e-verify platform. It is an irrefutable fact that academic institutions and employers of labour, among other agencies, rely on verification of results to help them select the best prospective students for admission and employment purpose.
“The “NECO e- verify” is an online result verification solution that guarantees instant authentication of academic and basic information about prospective candidates for admission and employment into academic institutions and work places respectively.
