The World Health Organisation (WHO) Africa, has said that one out of every four women in Africa has Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
This is just as it added that about two hundred and fifty (250,000) sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are acquired every day in the continent..
It made this disclosure on its website on Saturday, adding that HPV infection, one of the deadliest STIs, can cause cervical cancer, which is the most deadly cancer among women in Africa.
According to the ororganisation, STIs are infections transmitted through sexual contact including intercourse, anal or oral sex. However, some STIs can be transmitted during pregnancy, childbirth or through infected blood. Women are more likely to suffer more severe, long term symptoms of STIs than men, it added.
WHO advised the use of one condoms during any sexual activity to avoid STIs and HPV iinfections, as well as regular testing for STIs for early detection and proper treatment.
