10.5 million people multidimensionally poor in Kano State – report

A StatiSense report released in June 2023 has showed that a total of 10.5 million people are multidimensionally poor in Kano State, which represents about 66.3 percent of the total population.
It also revealed that 1.89 million children between the ages of 6 to 15, representing 39.2 percent total number of children in Kano, are out of school.
It further stated that n 2011, Kano recorded 111 child mortality rate per 1000 births, while in 2016, it recorded 112 and 81 in 2021. The under 5 mortality in the state was 184 in 2011, 203 in 2016 and 148 in 2021.
The report further indicated that the state ranked 16th in the ease of doing business, has 21.1 percent inflation rate and recorded a total of 79,338 formal enterprises.
The breakdown showed that Kano has 11, 569 nano, 24,790 micro, 39,990 small business and 2,975 medium enterprises.
In addition, the report disclosed that the state internally generated N40 billion in 2021, while total debt stood at N167.5 billion, out of which 122.4 is domestic and $100.7m is external debt.
It also showed that Kano has not remitted employees and employers pension payments for the period under review, while capital importation stood at the $2.1 million in 2021 and none in 2022.
