Lassa Fever Death toll hits 164 in 23 weeks

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed that a total of 164 Lassa fever deaths have occured in Nigeria.

It added that 957 confirmed cases have also been recorded in 28 states across Nigeria.

The agency made this known in its official Twitter page @NCDC on Friday.

According to the report, in week 22, the number of new confirmed cases was 7 from Bauchi, Edo, and Ondo states.

The NCDC said the record shows a case fatality rate (CFR) of 17.1 per cent which is lower than the (20.1%) per cent CFR recorded for the same period in 2022.

In total for 2023, 28 states have recorded at least one confirmed case across 106 Local Government Areas.”

Further breakdown of the report shows that 92 suspected cases were recorded within the period under review, of which 7 cases were confirmed and one death.

The NCDC said the record shows a case fatality rate (CFR) of 17.0 per cent which is lower than the 19.16 per cent CFR recorded for the same period in 2022.

“In total for 2023, 28 states have recorded at least one confirmed case across 106 Local Government Areas.”

176 suspected cases were recorded within the period under review, of which twenty-one cases and two deaths were confirmed.
