How To Tackle Unemployment In Nigeria – Father Alia

By Gom Mirian

The Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has advised President Bola Tinubu to tackle the plague of unemployment in the country with skills acquisition and entrepreneurship education.

This, according to him, would make the country’s economy thrive and create more jobs.

Alia said this on Thursday while on a solidarity visit to the Executive Secretary, TET Fund, Arc. Sonny Echono, in Abuja.

He assured that his administration would give education a top priority and also sought a partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to boost the quality of tertiary education delivery in the state.

“What I discovered as responsible for the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria is that a lot of degrees have been acquired by youth in the country but the “skills are not attached to those degrees, this is one of the reasons why both graduates and those who have not attended the four walls of education roam the street across the nation. My administration will go back to the drawing board in a bid to revitalize education in the state, tertiary institutions in Benue State were known for quality and scholarship in the past and that lost glory will be restored.

“Benue state is also a beneficiary of the projects from you and the good people of the state have conveyed our appreciation to your establishment. I’m just 8 days old as Governor and I’m looking forward to partnering with your establishment in the collaborative efforts to move education forward in our nation,” he said.
