The symbolic handing over of instruments of authority did not take place in Sokoto state, as neither immediate past Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal nor any of his officials attended the swearing-in of the new Governor of the state, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ceremony took place at the Giginya Memorial Stadium around 1pm.

The oath of office was administered to the Governor and his deputy by the Chief Judge of the state, Muhammad Sa’idu Sifawa.

The ceremony was attended by the immediate past Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, the APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, former deputy governors, Abdullahi Chiso Dattijo and Mukhtari Shagari respectively.

Others were the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, former Ambassadors from the state, leaders of APC, National and state lawmakers, diplomatic corps among others.

In his inaugural speech, Aliyu vowed to review some of the policies of the former administration.

Aliyu while elaborating on the nine-point agenda of his government, said he would give priority to security, health and poverty eradication.

“I assure you, I will not disappoint you. Rest assured, I will meet your expectations,” he said.

He called on members of the opposition to join hands with him to develop the state, while soliciting prayers from the people of the state in order to succeed in executing his promises.
