A 36-year-old female, Omolara Alashe, and her husband Ramoni Lateef, 40, are remanded by a chief Magistrates’ court sitting in Lagos for allegedly assaulting and raping their 19-year-old housemaid.

The couple, who reside in Igbonla, Ketu area of Lagos state are currently facing trial for rape, assault, stealing, and sexual assault.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. M. Tanimola, who acted contrary to the defendants’ plead, ordered their remand at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending receipt of advice of the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and adjoined the case to June 8.

The prosecutor, Insp. Donjor Perezi, who earlier told the court that the defendants committed the offenses in March at their residence, said: ” the husband, being the first defendant, had sexual intercourse with their 19-year-old housekeeper, and the wife, as second defendant, wakes the girl up at night, strips her naked and instructs her husband to rape the victim routinely without her consent.

“Alashe beats the victim up and penetrated her female organ with her fingers till she started bleeding. She also denied the victim of her salaries and seized her GTB ATM card as well as her sim card.” Perezi added.

He explained further that: “she also converted her salaries to her own personal use, and the case was reported to the police, leading to their arrest, adding that the offense contravened the provisions of Sections 260,137, 287, and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and section 260 states life imprisonment, while 287 draws three years jail term for stealing.”
