Lassa Fever Kills 151 as Nigeria Confirms 869 Cases  in 2023

No fewer than 869 cases of Lassa fever have been confirmed, including 151 deaths, recorded in 26 states in 2023, Says the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).

Some of the states include; Bauchi, Ondo, Edo, Taraba, Lagos, and Enugu states.

In the Lassa fever situation report released by NCDC on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday said that the predominant age group most affected was between the age group of 21-30 years.

According to the NCDC highlights: “In week 14, the number of new confirmed cases is 23, same with epi week 13 2023.

“These were reported from Bauchi, Ondo, Edo, Taraba, Lagos, and Enugu states.

“Cumulatively from week 1 to 14,2023, 151 deaths have been reported with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 17.4% which is lower than the CFR for the same period in 2022(19.3%).

“In total for 2023, 26 states have recorded at least one confirmed case across 101 local government areas.”
